įliC as a flagellar filament structural protein was identified in a variety of organisms.

In addition, flagellin was proposed to be a potent activator of innate immune response and thus plays a role either in stimulating host defense or in disease causation. Exhibiting regions of highly homologous amino acid sequences to several proteins of type III secretion system (TTSS), the bacterial flagellum has been considered to serve as a secretory system that might transport various virulence factors. The flagellum is an ultrastructure which mediates a number of functions in addition to motility, attachment and chemotaxis. The phenotypic characteristics of the fliC deletion mutant uncovered in this investigation suggest that fliC plays an essential role in normal flagellum function, bacterial growth, protein secretion by TTSS and bacterial virulence.Įdwardsiella tarda is an enteric pathogen responsible for significant economic loss in aquaculture with a wide host range including humans, and is usually flagellated and motile. In addition, the mutant showed reduced pathogenicity to fish by increasing the LD 50 value for 100-fold compared to the wild-type strain, as well as showed impaired bacterial growth, reduced motility, decreased biofilm formation and reduced levels of virulence-associated protein secretion involved in the type III secretion system (TTSS). It was found that the deletion of fliC significantly decreased the diameter of flagella filaments. tarda was constructed through double crossover allelic exchange by means of the suicide vector pRE112, and its virulence-associated phenotypes and pathogenicity were tested. In this study, a fliC in-frame deletion mutant of a virulent isolate of E. FliC, as a flagellar filament structural protein, is hypothesized to be involved in the pathogenesis of infection. More importantly, this creates relations with other MSC organizations with which we can share ideas and grow together through co-programs and interactions.Edwardsiella tarda is a flagellated Gram-negative bacterium which causes edwardsiellosis in fish. The MSC provides numerous resources, such as funding, a full-time advising staff, and a designated workspace called the Student Programs Office, among other resources. MSC FLI is one of 18 student committees of the Memorial Student Center (MSC). Ultimately, the freshmen shape their own FLI experience through their involvement.

Additionally, freshmen can choose to help create a program on their own with guidance from the staff.

In each subcommittee, every freshman is given the opportunity to develop themselves as leaders through participation in all of MSC FLI’s programs and service opportunities. There are two Programming subcommittees (Latitude and Longitude), a Public Relations subcommittee, a Leadership subcommittee, a Development subcommittee, and an Internal Programming subcommittee – more info can be found in the Subcommittees tab. MSC FLI consists of 22 Freshmen, 7 Assistant Directors, and 10 Executive Directors in charge of 6 subcommittees and the Costa Rica Service Learning Program. As MSC FLI approaches its eleventh year, it continues to promote the values of Family, Diversity, Acceptance, Leadership Development, and Fun in freshmen. MSC FLI began its first official year in 2009, thanks to the efforts of both Jonathan Glueck and Nick Petree. MSC Freshman Leadership International (FLI) is a freshman leadership organization at Texas A&M University dedicated to promoting cultural understanding and international awareness among the population at A&M.
